I wonder just how much the "pressure" of the parental expectations would have to do with his son's problems (plenty of PK's have very complex neuroses - always being "on display" and being required to maintain the appearance of being upstanding, sinless, and artificially "nice" and "good", etc.)Īnd then add in a mixture of changing doses/scripts for modern psychotropic medications (which can repress & create a superficial/artificial "normality" while underneath greatly exacerbating things like depression & suicidal ideation).Īnd then, if/when the meds DID seem to be helping, possibly some additional pressures added to that "Well you seem to be feeling better now. people feel like failures because they have not achieved "greatness" of purpose, etc.) and it seems that while purportedly beneficial and upbeat, ultimately the long term effect seems to be debilitating and a net negative (i.e. Personally, having seen the effect that the "Purpose Driven." nonsense seems to have on many people. But I'll reserve my empathy until I know they did the proper things to get the kid some real honest help and not a direct cause of the problem. I know too well what they are going through. I never wanted to physically hurt someone more than when he let out the "better place" line. Sick thing is, the same guy who was supposed to be helping the kid was the same guy to try and console and council the parents after it happened. In the meantime my friend is literally screaming for help and all his parents could do was further drown him in unaccredited christian faith-healing psychiatry. His parents had him visiting the church "counselor" who had no more training that a few summers at the local christian summer camp. I lost a friend as a kid to something similar.

I'm curious of the specifics of the circumstances because my empathy is directly related to what kind of potential mental abuse he may have undergone and what kind of professional help his parents may have sought.
